Soft, chewy, and perfect for wraps, curry bowls, or dipping — this homemade naan is simple to make and cooks up beautifully right on the stovetop. A true plate on repeat staple.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (0.25 oz) active dry or instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Dried basil (to taste)

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 4 tablespoons plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons oil

Instructions

  1.  Activate the yeast
  2. In a bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast.
  3. Let sit for about 10 minutes, or until the mixture becomes frothy.

4.Mix the dough

In a separate large bowl, add:

  • flour
  • salt
  • garlic powder
  • basil
  • yogurt
  • oil

Mix until combined.

5. Add yeast mixture

Pour the activated yeast mixture into the flour mixture.
Stir until a dough forms.

6. Knead

Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface (or use mixer) and knead for about 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

7. Rise

Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl.
Cover and let rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

8. Shape the naan

Divide dough into 8 equal pieces.
Roll each piece into an oval or circle.

9. Cook

Heat a lightly greased skillet over medium heat.
Cook naan for about 1 minute per side, until bubbly and golden with light char spots.
